Which Toyota Tacoma Configuration is Right for You?
Let's talk about Toyota Tacoma cab and bed size configurations.
- 31 December 2022
The Toyota Tacoma is a popular mid-size pickup truck that is known for its ruggedness and versatility. Whether you’re using your Tacoma for work or leisure, it’s important to choose the right cab and bed size to meet your needs. In this article, we’ll compare the different cab and bed size options for the third-generation Toyota Tacoma (2016-2023), including the Access Cab, and Double Cab, as well as the different bed lengths available. By the end, you’ll have a better understanding of which configuration is best for your needs.
There are three different configurations to consider.
- Access Cab long bed (6 feet)
- Double Cab short bed (5 feet)
- Double Cab long bed (6 feet)
Access Cab Long Bed
The Access Cab long bed configuration is available in the SR, SR5, and TRD Off-Road Trims.
The overall length of this configuration is 212.3 in. or 17’8.3”. The Access Cab can seat 4 people: two up front, and two jump seats in the back. The leg room in the rear of the Access cab is 24.6 in.
The jump seats in the Access Cab may be suitable for young children or simply as storage space, but you will find it very difficult fitting adults or car seats.
This may be the configuration for you if you don’t plan on driving with more than two adults including yourself.
Double Cab Short Bed
The Double Cab short bed configuration is available in all trim levels.
The overall length of the Double Cab short bed is the same as the Access Cab long bed: 212.3 in. or 17’8.3”. The Double cab can seat 5 people: two up front, and three in the back. Those sitting in the back can expect legroom of 32.6 in.; a full 8 in. more than the Access Cab.
Because the Toyota Tacoma is a mid-size truck, the Double Cab may still be uncomfortably small for tall adults sitting in the back.
Double Cab Long Bed
The Double Cab long bed configuration is available in the SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, and Limited trim levels.
This configuration has an overall length of 225.5 in. or 18’9.5”, which is about 12 in. longer than the other two configurations.
Conclusion
To sum up: if you’re not planning on driving other adults around or installing a carseat, then the Access Cab long bed could be a great option. If you want the extra leg room for the back, but you still want the same maneuverability as the Access Cab, the Double Cab short bed could be a good choice. Finally, if you want the extra leg room, but you don’t want to sacrifice the bed length, you can go with the Double Cab long bed, as long as you don’t mind the larger turn radius.
